Syncopated Peru is a musical and cultural study on Afro-Peruvian music. The project is designed to expose students to Afro-Peruvian music in three stages.
In the first stage, students participate in a 12-week workshop, taught by Marcos Napa, to learn about the music in a cultural context, as well as, how to play specific styles of the music.
In the second stage, students will use the information and incorporate it into creating music compositions. Once students have completed at least three compositions, they will perform them to the general community at various venues.
In the third stage, students will participate in a cultural exchange program in Peru to experience firsthand, the culture of the region.
