Greetings Family and Friends of Speaking in Rhythms, Speaking in Rhythms is initiating its 100 STEPS TO DOMINICA Fund Drive to help raise money towards our Syncopated Dominica Project. Syncopated Dominica is a musical and cultural study on the folk and popular music from Dominica. In the first stage, students participate in a 12-week workshop, to learn about the music in a cultural context, as well as, how to play specific styles of the music, such as Bele, Jing Ping, and Bouyon In the second stage, students will use the information they learn from the workshop and incorporate it into creating music compositions. Once students have completed at least three to four compositions, they will perform them to the general community at various venues. In the third stage, students will participate in a ten-day cultural exchange program in Dominica in July 2012 to experience firsthand, the culture of the region. The success of Speaking in Rhythms previous cultural exchange programs was made possible from community support. To meet our financial goal, we are asking for the support of the community. (See Budget for the Syncopated Dominica Project.) Syncopated Dominica is a project of Speaking in Rhythms Inc, a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization. All donations are tax deductible. |
